Insulation filled Stainless Guru Plug

The silicone Guru plug will get cooked with the first high temp sear or pizza baking session.

Here is a milled stainless plug that is filled with refractory insulation.. the wood know from the front door is too big, it will have to get it's own lathed up..

Boy, I hate to bring this up because it may confuse, but...
If you have an earlier KK with the "generic" Guru/ Stoker port, 1-3/8" I.D., you can use the longer Guru inducer tube that sticks out of the KK about 6 inches. This seems to be enough away from the fire that the silicone plug does not melt. http://www.thebbqguru.com/products/Bulk ... aptor.html
If I am not mistaken, current KK's have a port that is already sized for the Guru fan nozzle so you can not use the bulkhead adapter.

Is there an availability date for these?

Just a thought... has anyone tried a high heat cook with the BBQ GURU fan in the unit, but with the trap door closed? Seems like the o-ring will not do too well but it's easy to replace. The build in heat sink + closed door might serve to both block the air and protect the fan (I saw the other post with the melted blades).

There is no reason to leave the fan in the port for a high heat cook. Take it out. All you can do by leaving it in there is harm it. Especially given the scenario you describe whereby the fan is not being used. Take it out and plug the port, or leave it open for even more combustion air. Now on the other hand if you want to use it for the high heat cook, open the slider all the way, lay the pit probe outside the cooker somewhere, set the desired pit temp something well above ambient temp, and the fan will run non-stop the entire time. That should keep the fan and o-ring cool enough. But there is no reason nor need to do this for a high heat cook.

Thanks Michael. You're right... best replace a few dollar silicone plug vs risk melting a fan.
